What is pt, px, em, rem and % in font sizing?
pt (points) is a physical unit used in print — 1pt = 1/72 inch. px (pixels) is screen-based. em is relative to the parent element's font size. rem is relative to the root (HTML) font size. % is also relative to the parent. With a 16px base: 1em = 1rem = 16px = 12pt = 100%.
How do I convert pt to px?
Use the formula px = pt × 1.333 (for 96dpi screens). Example: 12pt × 1.333 = 16px. Our converter does this for you — just type in any box.
Is 1em equal to 1rem?
Yes — only when the parent and root sizes are equal. Both default to 16px. But em compounds (if a parent is 2em, the child's 1em = 32px), while rem never compounds. For predictable sizing, rem is usually preferred.
What is the minimum readable font size?
For web: 16px (12pt) minimum for body text per WCAG accessibility guidelines. For print: 8–10pt is readable for most adults, but seniors and the visually impaired often need 14–17pt.
Which Bible font size should I choose?
Standard print = 7–8pt, Large Print = 9–10pt, Giant Print = 12–14pt, Super Giant = 15–17pt. If you read in low light or struggle with small text, jump straight to Giant Print — the difference is dramatic.
Why does the printed chart come out slightly off?
Printers often scale by default. In the print dialog, set Scale to 100% and uncheck "Fit to Page". If it's still off, a 4–6% error is typical — measure the 1-inch calibration line in the printed output.
Do different fonts look the same at the same size?
No. Each font has different x-height and letter spacing. A 12pt Verdana looks noticeably larger than a 12pt Georgia. That's exactly why this tool lets you compare fonts side-by-side at equal sizes.
